Recorded

November 2, 2011 - November 27, 2013

Genre

Noise Rock, Industrial Rock

"Get Out of the House" is a song written by Austin Scholl and recorded under his alias ThornBrain. It was released on his second album, Nobody Cares Unless You're Pretty or Dying.

About

The song describes a youth having a drug trip while being forced to stay in his upstairs bedroom. Halfway through the song, the youth falls out of the window, is sent to the hospital, and at the end is stuck in casts in the den.

The lyrics were written for Thorn's songwriting class in late 2011, and they were expanded during recording after a misjudgement in the length of the music. The music was based on a random guitar riff idea he developed as he began working on Nobody Cares... The song was originally intended for Geizhals, though the music was not clearly defined until 2013.

Lyrics

You won't find me here
I'm a whole world away
You try to keep me grounded
You lock me up all day

But now I've got a plan
We'll see how long this stands
I've stepped out of this house
I've stepped out of your hands
Bit of a money and an altercation
And some edible imagination
My burning head and I
Are searching for new lands

I'm on the outside
Of here and now, of then and now
I'm seeing lights, I'm seeing
Sights that two feet won't allow

My own have now betrayed me
I can't see through one eye
My plan was to escape but now
I've tought myself to fly
But I still see
To my surprise
No longer a high rise
My bedroom is in the sky

By the time you found me
I'd hit an all-time low
Never saw the flashing lights
But felt a fleeting glow

Now I'm stuck back at home
A gnarled ball in the den
I guess it ain't so nice to
Get out of the house every now and then
